What is Flag Football?
Flag Football is a non-contact version of American Football. Each player wears a belt with two flags attached by Velcro. A tackle is made when the ball carrier has a flag removed by a defender.
We play on a field marked by plastic cones that varies in size depending on the number of people playing.
More information is available through the Wikipedia article on Flag Football.
Why do we play?
For fun. It’s not a competitive game, we enjoy playing the game and it’s good exercise. The banter is pretty good too!
When do we play?
We play every second Sunday from 1pm. Normally we play for around 2 hours, or until we get tired.
If there is an Edinburgh Wolves game on the Sunday, we don’t play as we’ll watch them.
Where do we play?
We play in the Meadows, next to Middle Meadow Walk. Just look for the guys in American football shirts throwing a ball around!
Do I need any experience or equipment?
No. We have a good number of flags. Don’t worry if you’ve never played the game before, it’s simple to pick up and we’ll guide you as to what to do. You should be over 18 though.
If you can, bring two shirts to play in, one white and one of another colour so that we can tell who is on which team!
How do I get involved?
- Get in touch. We’ll send you a text a few days before Sunday to see who is available to play and if we have enough to get a decent game
- Come along on a Sunday. A bit hit and miss as it may be a Sunday we’re not playing.
